The Kashmir:

Handloom Cashmere Travel Scarf

Woven by Hand. Warmed by the Himalayas.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★
4.9(312 Reviews)

Grade A Himalayan cashmere — gathered from the softest undercoat of high-altitude goats, where three animals yield enough fiber for a single scarf. The Kashmir is oversized enough to wear as a wrap, unisex enough to gift without hesitation, and woven entirely by hand on traditional looms. Because each piece is handloomed, no two are identical. The slight variations in color and weave pattern are not imperfections — they are the signature of the artisan.

PRODUCT DETAILS

Grade A Himalayan cashmere comes from the soft inner coat of mountain goats living at altitude, where the fibers grow finer and softer as insulation against extreme cold. The Kashmir is graded A — the finest classification — at 15–16 microns in diameter. For comparison, human hair averages 75 microns. The result is a fabric that feels lighter than wool but is warmer weight-for-weight, and that gets softer with every wash. At 200×70cm, The Kashmir is large enough to wear as a full body wrap, a shawl over evening clothing, or a blanket on a long-haul flight. Fringe edges are a natural result of the handloom process and are integral to the design.

A NOTE FROM THE ATELIER

Three goats. One scarf.
A lifetime of warmth.

The undercoat of a single Himalayan cashmere goat yields barely enough fibre for a third of a scarf. It takes three animals, one season of growth, and the patient hands of an artisan weaver to make The Kashmir. That ratio — three to one — is why real cashmere feels the way it does. It is also why we chose to work with weavers in Pokhara, Nepal, rather than a factory. The story of what you are wearing matters as much as the warmth.

At 15–16 microns, this is Grade A — the finest commercial cashmere available. Human hair averages 75 microns. The difference in softness is not subtle. Gets softer with every careful hand-wash — unlike synthetic blends that pill and deteriorate.

EVERY DETAIL, CONSIDERED

Warm enough for any cabin. Light enough for any bag.

Cashmere is nature’s engineering marvel — fibers with a hollow core trap heat with extraordinary efficiency at a fraction of wool’s weight. The Kashmir weighs just 180g and packs down to the size of a thick paperback. On a flight, it functions as a blanket. At the destination, it becomes a scarf or wrap. In meetings, it serves as a refined layer over business attire. One piece. Every scenario. The perfect companion for journeys that shift in temperature with every transition.

MADE BY HAND. MADE WITH PURPOSE

Every thread
tells a story.

The Kashmir is handloomed in Pokhara, Nepal by artisans who are blind, deaf, or physically disabled — people who, in Nepal's social structure, have historically been excluded from employment. A local non-profit provides them with looms, training, and a living wage. Your purchase funds their tools and their independence. The organisation also donates white canes, hearing aids, and wheelchairs to the wider disabled community — and distributes relief after Nepal's frequent earthquakes and landslides.

The softness is genuinely extraordinary — I have owned cashmere before but nothing that feels quite like this. The Natural Beige colour is warmer and richer in person. I wore it as a blanket on the flight and as a scarf at the destination. Packs to almost nothing and weighs less than a bottle of water.

I used to arrive from any flight longer than four hours with neck pain that lasted a day. Since The Rest, I have done London to Singapore twice and landed both times without stiffness. The memory foam genuinely moulds to your shape — not marketing language. I wish I had found this ten years ago.

I have been decanting into plastic vials for years and always end up with fragrance on everything except me. The Scent fills in seconds and has never leaked — not through one long-haul, not through being crushed at the bottom of my carry-on. One of those products that makes you wonder how you managed without it.

The Primrose color is even more beautiful in person than photographs can fully capture warm, rich, and remarkably versatile. I carried it from the boarding gate in London to dinner in Rome without ever considering a change. The detachable coin pouch is the detail I find myself using twenty times a day.

I travel to thirty countries a year and this is the first adapter I have genuinely trusted with my laptop. The fuse handled a surge in Vietnam that fried a colleague's charger. Four ports, all working simultaneously, every time. Compact enough to forget it is in my bag.

My daughter is eleven months old and we flew London to Bali — thirteen hours with a connection. The headphones stayed on for both flights and she slept through the worst of the engine noise. Not a single ear complaint after landing. I recommend these to every parent I know.

The dual time zone sub-dial is the feature I use every single day. One glance tells me the time in London and Singapore simultaneously — no mode switching, no fumbling. The chronograph is precise and the moon phase is accurate. This watch looks twice the price it costs.

The ANC is genuinely transformative on long-haul flights. I flew London to Tokyo and the cabin noise disappeared completely within seconds of putting them on. Thirty hours of battery meant I never worried about charging. The hard case survived checked luggage on four connecting flights without a scratch.

The dual snap closure stays completely shut no matter how full the wallet is. Not once has it popped open inside my bag. It sounds like a small detail but it changes the entire experience of carrying a wallet daily. Combined with the RFID blocking, the security this wallet gives me is exceptional.

I wanted something elegant but practical for frequent travel, and this exceeded expectations. The compartments are thoughtfully designed, making it easy to access everything quickly at the airport. What stands out most is how it ages beautifully over time. It doesn’t just serve a purpose—it becomes more personal with each journey. Subtle luxury at its best.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need To Know Before Upgrading Your Travel Essentials.

Is this real cashmere or a blend? +

100% pure Grade A Himalayan cashmere — no blends, no synthetic fibers, and no wool mixed in. Grade A represents the finest cashmere classification available, measuring just 15–16 microns in fiber diameter. This is what gives The Kashmir its exceptionally soft feel compared to mass-market cashmere products, which often rely on lower-grade fibers blended with wool or synthetic materials to reduce cost. The slight variations in color and weave are natural characteristics of handloomed pure cashmere and should be appreciated as signs of authentic craftsmanship, not imperfections.

Why does each scarf look slightly different? +

Because each one is woven by hand on a traditional loom by a single artisan. The hand-looming process naturally produces slight variations in tension, weave density, and colour absorption — no two scarves are identical. These variations are not defects. They are the signature of the maker and the proof of genuine handcraftsmanship. A perfectly uniform cashmere scarf was made by a machine, not a person.

How do I wash it? +

Dry clean for best results, or hand wash cold with a gentle cashmere-specific detergent. Fill a basin with cold water, add a small amount of detergent, submerge the scarf, gently agitate for 30 seconds, then rinse thoroughly in cold water. Do not wring or twist — press gently to remove water, then lay flat on a clean towel to dry. Do not tumble dry. Do not hang to dry — this stretches the fibers. With proper care, a Grade A cashmere scarf lasts decades.

Is this a good gift? +

The Kashmir is our most-gifted product. It sits at a premium price point that communicates genuine care and consideration while still feeling timeless, practical, and deeply personal. It arrives in Gold Coast Journeys luxury gift packaging — no additional wrapping required. The artisan story gives it a narrative that most gifts lack — the recipient understands that their purchase supported a weaver's livelihood and contributed to community welfare in Nepal. Unisex, timeless, and useful on every journey — the ideal gift for anyone who travels.

Will it pill? +

Some minor pilling can occur during the first few wears in high-friction areas — where a bag strap crosses the scarf, for example. This is normal for any fine fiber and does not indicate poor quality. Use a cashmere comb or a fine-toothed fabric comb to gently remove any pills. Grade A cashmere at 15–16 microns pills significantly less than lower-grade fibers, and with proper care the scarf will maintain its appearance beautifully for many years.
